Lancia Monte Carlo

Another gem and interesting job this last week, was this Lancia Monte Carlo. At some time, someone had replaced the cam belt without setting the timing correctly causing a big end bearing type noise. The ignition timing was also over advanced causing detonation! The owner tells me it is the best it has been now it is running and timed correctly!

Lotus Elise

Lotus Elise

This Lotus Elise came to me with a rattle,I discovered the harmonic balancer bolt had loosened and was no longer located correctly. This allowed it to wobble and eventually the drive lug on the cam belt gear was worn off causing more damage. the debris shown in the video and photos shows the metal filings and dust or fragments from the belt.

1972 Viper Green 911 T

1972 Viper Green 911 T

This car came to us in 2005 just after it was purchased it was to have the engine rebuilt originally then the bodywork and paint repairs done later but both were done during that year. This engine was badly in need of major repairs, so a complete overhaul was performed. As can be seen in the photos, it had many oil leaks and a valve guide had dropped out of a cylinder head, as well as having very worn main bearings! Once the engine condition was determined and we knew what we were dealing with, the decision was made, to build it to 2.4S specification, but using the existing carburettors. The cosmetic part of the overhaul was kept to a minimum to keep the cost down. The engine needed new pistons and cylinders full head modification to S specification and all the usual reconditioning processes to be followed. We had not seen the car for nearly 10 years as it had been sold and went to live interstate, I was very pleased to see this old acquaintance when it arrived recently! This is always good when clients or cars return after some time away!

Gearbox

Gearbox

This gearbox originally was brought in with a slight wine and on disassembly was found to have a major problem with a broken pinion with some research the owner found a source for this 8/34 crown wheel and pinion at a similar cost to a 7/31 original unit. the 8/34 as can clearly be seen as far stronger and will suit his super torquey 2.7 E engine very well! The broken crown wheel and pinion is now completed and the new 8/34 set is in the car operating well to demonstrate the difference between them and why there were a few issues in the adjustment here is a photo of the 2 pinions, and Crown wheel and pinion sets. The original was a 7/31 ratio and the new is 8/34 making a difference in gearing of about 1%.
